A functional definition of organisational communication. as defined by Dance and Larson is "a set of role behaviours of creating and interpreting message displays, thereby effecting transfer of knowledge." This takes place within 2 network of interdependent relationships. * message display: any object or entity, verbal or nonverbal, that represent or symbolize something that call attention to that aspect of the symbolized entity. * interpretation: involves the mental process or the cognitive process of making sense out of message display. *Transfer: delivery of information accompanied by the cognitive processing by the receiver.
